Montblanc Friedrich II the Great Limited Edition Fountain Pen 28647, 1999

Dedicated to a remarkable king!  Produced in 1999 in a limited edition of 4810 pieces worldwide, the uniqueness of which is guaranteed by Montblanc.

A tribute to a promoter of art and culture.  Montblanc Hommage a Friedrich II the Great. With this limited edition, Montblanc pays tribute to Frederich the Great as a passionate supporter of the Enlightenment, as a patron of fine arts, and as a far-sighted promoter of culture.  His efforts laid the foundations which allowed Prussia, and Berlin, to become one of the key cultural centers in Europe.  Against the background of the Enlightenment, Prussia attracted the great artists and thinkers of the age and the architect von Knobelsdorff.

Frederick the Great - a Prussian reformer.  Frederic, himself a writer, repeatedly sought contact with other thinkers, and especially his close friend Voltaire, who was a guest at the palace of Sans Souci for many years. The king's best-known book, Anti-Machiavelli", was inspired by his conversations with Voltaire. In it Frederick describes his view of the king's function as that of "the first servant of the state". In this role, Frederick the Great built up unique art collections, instituted wide-reaching reforms, and had theaters and opera houses built in Berlin, in addition to Sans Souci Palace. It is hardly surprising that Frederick became the most popular European of his age, revered throughout Europe in educated and enlightened circles.
