Laban Santa Anita Park Tribute Vermeil Limited Edition Fountain Pen

Elevate your writing experience with the Laban Santa Anita Park Thoroughbred racetrack Tribute Limited Edition Fountain Pen, an extraordinary blend of artistry, heritage, and luxurious craftsmanship. More than just a writing instrument, this pen is a sculpted masterpiece that commands attention and admiration.

The Laban Santa Anita Park Thoroughbred racetrack Tribute Pen marks the inaugural release in a celebrated series of rare, artisanal writing instruments honoring icons of horse racing. Produced as a custom order in 2010, with only a handful ever made and sold exclusively through the Santa Anita Thoroughbred Horse Racetrack gift shop, this pen is a true collector’s piece—rare, highly sought after, and infused with the spirit of sporting greatness. As such, it stands as a true collector’s piece—rare and highly sought after—while remaining a superb writing instrument and a striking work of art.

Handcrafted in 2010, the pen pairs traditional jewelry-making techniques with modern precision. Its cap and barrel ends are made from hand-turned ebonite, celebrated for its organic warmth and tactile comfort—providing the perfect contrast to the striking brilliance of its metalwork. The pen barrel features a lavish sterling silver overlay, richly finished with a thick layer of solid 18K gold vermeil. This overlay isn’t just decoration; it’s the pen’s visual, radiating sophistication and luxury.

What truly distinguishes this Laban pen is its remarkable dimensional artistry. The pen's theme celebrates Santa Anita Park’s rich history and heritage as one of the world’s premier destinations for horse racing—honoring the legendary horses, skilled jockeys, and unforgettable moments that have defined the sport. Using the ancient cire perdue (lost-wax casting) technique, master artisans sculpt intricate wax designs, which are then cast in sterling silver. The resulting surface is a raised, sculptural landscape—each detail inspired by Santa Anita Park—brought to life through hand engraving and burin work, for depth and nuance no machine can rival. Every time you pick up the pen, you’ll discover new details beneath your fingertips.

Fitted with a solid 18K gold Fine nib, the pen glides effortlessly across the page, offering a writing experience that’s both smooth and responsive. Its cartridge/converter filling system adds versatility, making it ideal for both daily use and those who savor the ritual of bottled ink.

Every component of this pen is meticulously hand-finished, polished, and assembled, then undergoes stringent quality checks to ensure lasting beauty and flawless performance.

Perfectly balanced and undeniably distinguished, the Tribute Pen glides effortlessly across the page with the same precision and poise that defined Pincay’s riding. More than a writing instrument, it is an heirloom-quality celebration of perseverance, excellence, and legacy—crafted for collectors, horse racing enthusiasts, and anyone who values mastery in both sport and artisanship.

With its substantial weight, exquisite detail, and centuries-old craftsmanship, the Laban Santa Anita Park Tribute Pen, you don’t just own a pen—you hold a chapter of racing greatness in your hand, forever captured through artistry, heritage, and uncompromising craftsmanship.

LABAN has committed to dedicating themselves as a leader to the pen industry in Taiwan, creating a brand new chapters in fine writing.

During the 1970s, during what is commonly referred to as the Taiwanese Economic Miracle, the previous generation of course had no access to the Internet or even many common business networking channels. John, the founder of LABAN, flew around the world with only a suitcase, working to build a promising future for the pen industry in Taiwan. Due to the increased costs, outsourcing and offshoring in the industry, and fierce price competitions, what remained in Taiwan were old clients, old masters, and old crafts... All of a sudden, even the idea of handwriting became "old-school". From the very beginning, LABAN focused on bringing back the pride and joy of using a finely made instrument to handwrite on a daily basis. While doing so, they began to reach an ever increasing number of customers new to this world of fine writing.

The use of liquid ink flowing through a finely made writing instrument elevates the task of writing to a new level. Every carefully formed letter, each single word becomes more meaningful, each stroke of the pen records the unique aspects of our lives. Writing changes from a simple recording of information to an art form, one available to anyone who chooses to embrace it.

The manufacturing process of every LABAN pen is a careful mix of art and craft. The techniques range from the high tech of CNC to machine a wide variety of colorful acrylics, turning fine materials from the past of pen making, such as ebonite or celluloid, to the creation of intricately crafted decorations in precious metals. The limited edition Dragon Pen in 2004 was awarded The Best Writing Instrument by Lewis Clark, Royal Academy of Arts in the UK. LABAN also once built a collaborative partnership with Musei del Vaticano, and became the honorary signature pen of Pope Benedict XVI.

Pen comes with a new leather pen case and a gift presentation box.
