Caran d'Ache Hexagonal Cubes, Rhodium/Silver Fountain Pen, 2002

Squares and cubes are classic examples of geometry in its purest form, and have long featured in the works of architects and artists. For the adornment of the 2002 edition of its "Hexagonal" Collections, the Swiss manufacturer Caran d'Ache has developed a new engraving pattern baptized "Cubes". Straight vertical and horizontal grooves are engraved on the six faces of each of the four writing instruments and on the front and back of the lighter, forming a succession of squares. The top of each square is satin-finished and this, together with the depth of the grooves, creates the impression of "cubes". The name of the design is derived from the engraving pattern.

Caran d'Ache Hexagonal Cubes Fountain Pen design has a rhodium-coated, 18-carat gold nib, available in a choice of Medium and Broad. The Hexagonal cubes fountain pen fills with either an ink-pump or cartridges.

The Caran d'Ache Hexagonal Cubes fountain pen is crafted from a silver plated brass body with a rhodium finish. The long, flat clip of the Hexagonal Cubes fountain pen is made of a bronze-beryllium alloy "" also silver plated and rhodium-coated "" and carries a small plate engraved with the "CdA" monogram.

Hexagonal Cubes Fountain Pen Body, Cap and Trims
Silver-plated and rhodium-coated body, cap and trims. Each pen features the "CdA" identification on cap and clip.

The Hexagonal Cubes motif also now features in Caran d'Ache Lighter Collection, first launched in 1978.
